The Walking Dead is an American zombie apocalypse comic book series created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, published by Image Comics. Beginning in 2003, the series ran for 193 issues and was published primarily in black and white. The story follows Rick Grimes, a Kentucky deputy who wakes from a coma into a zombie apocalypse and gradually becomes the leader of a group of survivors. When the series first launched in 2003, there were only small print runs for many of the early issues, making them quite rare. There were an estimated 7,266 copies of The Walking Dead issue 1 produced in total.
