About this deal

The Sinclair ZX81 is a home computer developed by Sinclair Research, manufactured by Timex Corporation in Dundee, Scotland, and launched in the UK in March 1981 as the successor to the ZX80. It was the first inexpensive mass-market home computer to be sold by high street stores, and it marked the point when computing in Britain became an activity for the general public rather than just businessmen and electronics hobbyists. More than 1.5 million units were sold. Under the hood it runs a 3.5 MHz Z80A 8-bit microprocessor, an 8 KB ROM containing Sinclair BASIC, and 1 KB of RAM. The RAM is expandable to 16 KB via the rear expansion bus. Like its predecessor, it features a flat membrane keyboard and connects to a standard television set. A cassette tape recorder is used for data storage. This listing is for the unit only in untested condition, sold as seen for parts or restoration, so a working power supply, TV lead, and tape interface would need to be sourced separately.
