About this deal
The IBM ThinkPad 755CE is a mid-1990s high-end notebook laptop released by IBM. It arrived in October 1994 as part of an updated ThinkPad 755 line-up. It ships with the Intel i486DX4 clocked at 100MHz as standard, and the DX4 is a clock-tripled i486 microprocessor with a 16KB level 1 cache. The 755CE features a 10.4-inch active-matrix TFT LCD with a special polariser dubbed "Black Matrix", which enhanced the picture's dynamic range. The machine can take up to 40MB of RAM, with 8MB non-removable installed as standard. This particular unit has been restored and recapped, with the original hard drive replaced by a solid-state drive running Windows 98, and native VGA output retained for full DOS compatibility. The processor sits on a daughterboard that connects to a socket on the motherboard, a design that also allows aftermarket processor upgrades. The 755CE also features IBM's Mwave digital signal processor, which doubles as a 14.4Kbps data/fax modem, speakerphone, and answering machine, alongside PCMCIA slots and an infrared port. It is ideal for retro computing enthusiasts, DOS gaming, or vintage IBM collectors who want a period-correct machine that is ready to use out of the box.
