Race for the Galaxy is a card game designed by Thomas Lehmann, released in 2007 by Rio Grande Games. Players construct galactic civilisations using cards depicting worlds, technological innovations, and societal advances, competing to achieve the highest victory point total. At the start of each round, all players simultaneously and secretly choose one of five phases: Explore, Develop, Settle, Consume, or Produce. The base game is for two to four players aged twelve and up, and is well regarded by strategy game enthusiasts for its elegant card-driven mechanics and high replay value. The Gathering Storm is the first expansion for Race for the Galaxy, adding new cards, a fifth player, goals to compete over, as well as solitaire and drafting rules. Goals consist of First Goals, which reward the first player to achieve an objective with three extra victory points, and Most Goals, which reward the player with the most developments, military, or certain types of worlds. The solo mode, included in The Gathering Storm, has received critical acclaim. This used bundle is a great way to get both the base game and its most popular expansion together at a reduced price.
