Parasyte is a sci-fi horror manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki, serialised from 1989 to 1994. The story follows high school student Shinichi Izumi, who is the victim of a failed attempt by a parasitic organism to take over his brain. The parasite, Migi, instead infects his arm, and the two are forced into an uneasy partnership to fight other parasites. The series is rated 16+ and is a recognised cult favourite. By August 2022 the manga had over 25 million copies in circulation, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time. It received the Kodansha Manga Award in 1993. Since its first release, the series has inspired live-action films, spinoffs, and a global hit anime series in 2015.
