About this deal
Wonder Man (Simon Williams) is a long-running Marvel Comics character and Avenger. Created by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby, he first appeared in The Avengers #9 in October 1964. Originally introduced as a supervillain imbued with ionic energy, he fought the Avengers before eventually being reborn as a superhero and joining the team. One of his most notable roles in Marvel lore is serving as the brainwave template for Vision -- after his ionic-ray-based powers caused him to seemingly die, his brain patterns were preserved and later used by Ultron to create Vision. This seven-issue lot is a great starting point for fans of classic Avengers comics, particularly those drawn in by the character's renewed profile. Wonder Man featured prominently as a founding member of the West Coast Avengers, first appearing in a four-issue miniseries in 1984 before becoming one of the primary characters in the series' 102-issue run. His ionic energy-permeated body grants him greatly enhanced strength, near-invulnerability to penetration wounds, no need for food, water, or air, and the ability to fly at speeds in excess of 700 mph. Collectors and Marvel fans alike will find him a rich and complex character with decades of comic history to explore.
