Lords of Waterdeep is a strategy board game designed by Peter Lee and Rodney Thompson and published by Wizards of the Coast. Set in Waterdeep, a fictional city from the Dungeons and Dragons Forgotten Realms universe, players take on the roles of the masked rulers of the city, deploying agents and hiring adventurers to complete quests and increase their influence. It supports 2 to 5 players and is suitable for ages 12 and up. Lords of Waterdeep is primarily a worker placement game with card drafting elements. Players place their agents on various spaces around the city to collect gold, gather adventurers, draw Intrigue cards, or gain Quests -- the main way to earn victory points. Players can also expand the city by purchasing new buildings that open up additional actions on the board, and hinder or help other lords by playing Intrigue cards. After eight rounds of worker placement, the player with the most victory points wins. The game is widely regarded as an accessible introduction to the worker placement genre and an appealing pick for both Dungeons and Dragons fans and Euro-style board game enthusiasts.
