Hunter x Hunter is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, serialised in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump since March 1998. The English edition is published by VIZ Media. The story follows young Gon Freecss, who discovers that his father -- who left him at a young age -- is actually a world-renowned Hunter, a licensed professional who specialises in fantastical pursuits such as locating rare animal species, treasure hunting, or hunting down lawless individuals. Gon decides to follow in his father's footsteps and become a legendary Hunter, beginning the journey by storm-tossed ship, where he meets fellow applicants Leorio and Kurapika. Such pursuits require a licence, and less than one in a hundred thousand can pass the gruelling qualification exam -- those who do pass gain access to restricted areas and amazing stores of information. Togashi is also the author of the popular Yu Yu Hakusho , making this an ideal pick for fans of classic action-adventure shonen manga. The book reads from right to left in traditional manga format.
