About this deal
Heavy Metal is an American science fantasy comics magazine, first published in 1977, known primarily for its blend of dark fantasy, science fiction, erotica, and steampunk comics. Unlike traditional American comic books of the time, which were bound by the restrictive Comics Code Authority, the magazine-format Heavy Metal featured explicit nudity, sexual situations, and graphic violence. This lot covers the full 1999 run plus specials, all reported to be in very good condition. As well as its erotica, the magazine provided a vivid showcase for some of the most interesting artists and storytellers working in the mainstream and in various subgenres of fantasy and sci-fi. Contributors to 1999 issues included artists such as Barry Windsor-Smith, Gimenez, Caza, Simon Bisley, Manara, and Corben. Aimed squarely at adult readers, this is a solid collectable snapshot of the title at the turn of the millennium.
