About this deal
Heavy Metal, billed as "the adult illustrated fantasy magazine," is an American science fantasy comics magazine first published in 1977, known primarily for its blend of dark fantasy, science fiction, erotica, and steampunk comics. Unlike traditional American comics of the time, which were bound by the restrictive Comics Code Authority, the magazine-format Heavy Metal featured explicit nudity, sexual situations, and graphic violence, making it strictly for adult readers. Each issue offered a vast assortment of artistic styles, from basic line drawings to fully shaded illustrations, giving each story its own immediate and distinctive identity. This lot covers the complete 1991 run of seven issues alongside a bonus 1986 issue. Heavy Metal switched to a bi-monthly schedule from March 1989 onwards, with HM Communications publishing a total of 136 issues across 16 volumes between April 1977 and March 1992, making issues from this period part of the original publisher's final years. All issues are described as being in very good condition, offering a solid starting point or supplement for collectors of vintage illustrated adult fantasy comics.
