The Hound of Shadow is an illustrated interactive fiction text adventure developed by Eldritch Games and published by Electronic Arts in 1989. Loosely based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft, the game is set in London during the 1920s. The aim is to escape the curse of the Hound of Shadow in that atmospheric period setting. Before play begins, the player creates a character by choosing gender, economic class, occupation, age, skills, and nationality. These choices have a genuine impact on gameplay: a female character will be refused service in a pub, and a character with World War I military service will be more prone to mental strain when dabbling with dark forces.
