About this deal

This lot contains five copies of X-Men #1 (Marvel Comics, October 1991), written by Chris Claremont and drawn by Jim Lee -- the best-selling single issue of a comic book of all time, with recorded sales of 8.1 million copies. The issue was released in five different editions: four standard covers priced at $1.50 each and one Special Collectors Edition on higher-quality paper with no adverts, priced at $3.95, which contained all the material from the four standard issues plus additional content. The four standard cover images fit together to form a single larger image, which was then used as the gatefold cover for the fifth edition. The story, titled Rubicon, sees Magneto form the Acolytes and proclaim Asteroid M a haven for mutants, with a Nick Fury cameo. Professor X splits the roster into two strike forces: Cyclops's Blue Team in X-Men, and Storm's Gold Team in Uncanny X-Men. The issue features a large cast including Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, Rogue, Storm, Psylocke, Beast, Jean Grey, Iceman, Archangel and Colossus, with Magneto as the villain and the first appearances of the Acolytes. An ideal purchase for Marvel collectors and fans of the early 1990s Copper Age.
