Witch Hat Atelier is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kamome Shirahama. The series follows a girl named Coco, who becomes a witch apprentice to fulfil her longtime dream of becoming a witch and restore her mother whom she accidentally turned into stone. One day Coco secretly witnesses a travelling witch named Qifrey performing magic by drawing it, and armed with this knowledge she begins to learn the craft herself. It has been serialised in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Morning Two since July 2016. Due to Shirahama's background as an illustrator, the art style leans closer to that seen in classic children's books than manga, while also drawing from Renaissance art, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, American comics, and bande dessinee. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) ranked Witch Hat Atelier as one of the Top 10 Graphic Novels for Teens in both 2020 and 2021, and the series won the Harvey Award for Best Manga in 2020 and 2025. By March 2026 the series had over 7.5 million copies in circulation. A great pick for fans of high fantasy, Studio Ghibli, and beautifully crafted artwork.
