About this deal
The VL6180X is a three-in-one optical module combining an infrared laser emitter, a proximity sensor, and an ambient light sensor (ALS). It uses time-of-flight measurements of infrared pulses for ranging, giving accurate results independent of the target's colour and surface. The module is recommended for distances from 5 mm to 100 mm, making it well suited to short-range applications such as robotics, proximity detection, and basic gesture recognition. Distance and ambient light level readings are returned via a digital I2C interface, and the breakout board includes a voltage regulator and level shifters so it can be connected to both 5 V and 3.3 V microcontrollers such as Arduino Uno, ESP32, and ESP8266. Libraries for the VL6180X are available from both Adafruit and Pololu, keeping setup straightforward for hobbyists and makers getting started with distance sensing projects.
