Virtua Fighter 2 is a 1994 arcade fighting game developed and published by Sega, and is the second entry in the Virtua Fighter series. Because the Mega Drive hardware could not handle the complex visuals of the arcade original, the 1996 port was remade as a 2D fighter rather than the 3D experience found on the Saturn. Both of the newer characters, Shun-Di and Lion, were removed, leaving the original eight fighters for combat. It supports one or two players and is best enjoyed with a six-button controller. Even in stripped-down form, the game is capable of keeping you entertained, with fluid sprite animation and a floor warping effect reminiscent of Street Fighter II. The audio is a strong point, with clear voice work and solid renditions of the famous character themes. This is the UK PAL version, making it a relatively uncommon release and a worthwhile pick-up for Mega Drive collectors or fans of 16-bit fighting games.
