Eternal Champions is a 1993 fighting game developed and published by Sega exclusively for the Mega Drive/Genesis -- notably one of the few fighting games of its era built from the ground up as a home console title rather than an arcade port. Sega created it to compete with the fighting game boom sparked by Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat, setting it apart with a strong story focus, fighters drawn from different historical time periods, reflectable projectiles, force fields, weapon-carrying characters, a trap-filled training mode, and elaborate stage-specific finishing moves called Overkills. The roster features nine characters from different eras, each with their own backstory and biography.
