About this deal
Vagabond is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue, portraying a fictionalised account of the life of swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, based on Eiji Yoshikawa's novel Musashi. The story follows Shinmen Takez o, shunned by his village as a wild and violent youth, who joins the Toyotomi army at age 17 for the Battle of Sekigahara, only to find himself a survivor on the losing side. VIZ Media licensed the series for English release and published all 37 volumes. Their release retains the colour pages from the series' original magazine run. This lot covers volumes 1 to 12, making it an excellent entry point for new readers. The manga has over 82 million copies in circulation worldwide and won the 24th Kodansha Manga Award as well as the Grand Prize of the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2002. The North American edition also earned Inoue a nomination for the 2003 Eisner Award in the Best Writer/Artist category. Rated mature, the series is aimed at fans of historical action, samurai fiction, and beautifully crafted sequential art.
