About this deal
The Secret of Monkey Island is a point-and-click graphic adventure game developed and published by LucasFilm Games, set in a fictional version of the Caribbean during the age of piracy. You play as Guybrush Threepwood, a young man who dreams of becoming a pirate, exploring fictional islands and solving puzzles. The game was designed by Ron Gilbert, working alongside Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman. It uses the SCUMM verb-based interface, where players construct commands by selecting a verb and combining it with an object or inventory item, with interactive objects highlighted as you hover over them. Notably, it is impossible to get irrevocably stuck and the player character cannot die, while the branching dialogue system lets you speak to characters in different ways without fear of a wrong choice. The Amiga version features its own unique instrument samples for the music, and LucasFilm did a strong job with the port, meaning Amiga owners missed out on nothing from other versions. The game earned scores of 90% or above from Amiga Computing, Amiga Format, Amiga Joker and Amiga Power on its release , making this a genuinely sought-after piece of retro gaming history.
