Talisman: The Magical Quest Game was first published in 1983 and went through four editions under Games Workshop. When the second edition arrived in 1985, Citadel produced a range of metal miniatures based on the game's character illustrations, sculpted by Aly Morrison. The first two editions came with card characters to represent players, so these metal miniatures were sold separately to the game as optional, higher-quality replacements. For the second edition, Citadel produced an extended line of metal miniatures based on the original game's character illustrations, sold in several different formats. The Gladiator is one of the characters from the Talisman Expansion set. The Expansion Set grouping included characters such as the Amazon, Barbarian, Gladiator, Halfling, Hobgoblin, Knight, Leprechaun, Merchant, Necromancer, Philosopher, Pilgrim, Ranger, Rogue, and Satyr. In total, Citadel released 70 different miniatures for the first and second editions of Talisman and its four expansions between 1983 and 1988. These figures are now long out of production and are highly sought after by collectors of vintage Oldhammer and classic Games Workshop miniatures.
