The Synology DS409slim is a compact 4-bay NAS designed for home offices and small businesses, built around the use of 2.5-inch drives to deliver lower power consumption and virtually silent operation in an extremely small footprint. It runs a 1.2GHz Marvell 6281 processor paired with 128MB of DDR2 memory. This is a refurbished unit sold without drives, so you will need to supply your own 2.5-inch SATA HDDs or SSDs. Connectivity includes a Gigabit LAN port, two USB 2.0 ports, and one eSATA port. Multiple RAID modes are supported, including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and JBOD, to suit different data protection needs. Windows, Linux, and Mac clients are all supported, and a smart fan design keeps the unit's fan off under normal conditions, spinning up only when needed to keep noise to a minimum.
