Space Harrier II is a 1988 rail shooter developed and published by Sega. A sequel to the original Space Harrier, it was one of the launch titles for the Mega Drive. Like the original, the game involves a superhuman hero who runs and flies towards a forever distant background on a checkerboard-styled ground, with 13 stages to complete by jetting around and blasting enemies and bosses, played from behind the main character as the landscape rushes up in a pseudo-3D perspective. Players can select any stage to start the game, but all twelve main levels must be completed before moving on to the Final Chapter stage. The game features digitised voice recordings during gameplay and an auto-fire option in the game menu. A solid pick for retro collectors and fans of classic Sega shooters, ACE magazine listed Space Harrier II as one of the top three best games available for the Mega Drive at the time of its release.
