About this deal
Sonic and Knuckles is a 1994 platform game developed by Sega Technical Institute and published by Sega for the Mega Drive. The game features two playable characters, Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna, each with their own story. Like previous Sonic games, players traverse side-scrolling levels at high speeds while collecting rings and defeating enemies. The game marked Knuckles' debut as a playable character. Sonic and Knuckles was developed simultaneously alongside its predecessor, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and the two were planned as a single game until time constraints and cartridge costs forced the developers to split them. The cartridge features a unique additional slot on top where players can insert other Mega Drive cartridges, a feature called lock-on technology. Inserting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 creates the combined game Sonic 3 and Knuckles, featuring all fourteen zones from both games. Critics praised the game's replay value and lock-on technology upon release. This Complete In Box copy is a sought-after piece of 16-bit history for retro gaming collectors.
