These are used, pre-owned Holo Rare cards from the Pokemon Base Set, published by Wizards of the Coast. Base Set is the first Pokemon expansion released for the Trading Card Game, first released in January 1999 for the English-speaking world. The full set contains 16 Holographic Foil rares among its 102 cards , and the holo line-up includes iconic names such as Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, and Mewtwo. There were several print runs of Base Set, some more valuable than others. 1st Edition cards carry a mark below the character window that reads Edition 1. Cards without that mark belong to the Shadowless, Unlimited, or dated Unlimited editions. Shadowless cards lack the drop-shadow around the character window.
