One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda , which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1997 and quickly became one of the most popular manga in Japan. It follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, whose body gained the properties of rubber after he accidentally ate a supernatural fruit, as he travels the oceans in search of the titular treasure and organises a diverse crew known as the Straw Hats. Individual chapters are collected into tankōbon format volumes, each gathering around 10 to 12 chapters. This listing is the first printing (shohan) of Volume 44, published in Japanese by Shueisha on 4 December 2006, running to 232 pages. Tankōbon volumes include new cover artwork, a question-and-answer column by the author, fan-art galleries, and various other bonus features.
