About this deal

The Game Boy Light (MGB-101) is a Japan-exclusive redesign of the original Game Boy, released in 1998, and notably the first Nintendo handheld to feature an electroluminescent backlit screen. It was quickly superseded by the Game Boy Color later that same year, meaning it never received a Western release , making it a sought-after piece for collectors. It was available in gold and silver colour variants. The built-in electroluminescent backlight with an on/off switch sets it apart from other retro handhelds, and it is ideal for playing in low-light or dark environments. The console keeps a slim form factor similar to that of the Game Boy Pocket, but is slightly taller with a larger battery compartment to accommodate two AA batteries. It offers approximately 12 hours of gameplay with the backlight on and up to 20 hours with it off. It supports all original Game Boy games, though it is not compatible with Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance titles. A must-have for retro gaming fans, this used silver example is sold by a US-based seller, saving buyers the hassle of importing directly from Japan.
