The Nintendo Game Boy DMG (model DMG-01) is a handheld game console developed and marketed by Nintendo, first released in Japan in April 1989 and in Europe in September 1990. Nintendo prioritised affordability, battery life, and durability over faster processors and colour graphics, resulting in a monochromatic display and an 8-bit processor. The console is powered by four AA batteries and takes its DMG name from the original internal project codename, Dot Matrix Game. This boxed set is a great find for retro collectors. Tetris was famously chosen as the pack-in game for the Game Boy in every region outside Japan, on the basis that it would appeal to a much wider audience than young boys alone. The classic puzzle game involves arranging falling pieces to clear lines, and is still regarded as one of the most popular games of all time. Game Boy cartridges are also compatible with the later Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance systems.
