Pokemon FireRed Version and Pokemon LeafGreen Version are 2004 remakes of the original 1996 Pokemon Red and Green games, developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. They are part of the third generation of the Pokemon video game series and hold the distinction of being the first enhanced remakes within the franchise. Both titles are well suited to fans of the original games as well as newcomers to the series. Set in the Kanto region, new features include a contextual help menu and a new area, the Sevii Islands, which the player can access after defeating the Elite Four and the Pokemon League Champion. Pokemon now have genders, natures, and abilities, can hold items, and are able to breed once the player reaches the Sevii Islands post-game. Players can also connect with Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, making it possible to obtain over 350 Pokemon. FireRed and LeafGreen were commercial successes, selling a total of around 12 million copies worldwide.
