About this deal

This is a used miniature Bisley telescope, made by the renowned London optical firm J H Steward. James Henry Steward established J H Steward Ltd in 1852, with his first practice on The Strand, where he gained a reputation as a skilled manufacturer of optical, scientific, and nautical instruments, quickly becoming the primary optician to the National Rifle Association. These miniature Bisley telescopes were made by J H Steward Ltd in London and date back to the 1890s. They are typically constructed in brass with a leather grip. This particular example also carries the Parker Hale name. Parker Hale is a renowned name in shooting accessories with a long history of producing high-quality sights and equipment favoured by marksmen for decades, having made a variety of sights and accessories for rifles including the Lee-Enfield, Martini, and Enfield Pattern rifles. Parker Hale sights and accessories were closely associated with competitive shooting events such as the Bisley Meeting. Together, these two names make this a highly collectable piece of British shooting heritage, appealing to collectors of antique optics and target shooting memorabilia alike.
