LEGO Harry Potter set 4701, The Sorting Hat, was released in 2001 as part of the Philosopher's Stone subtheme. It contains a platform with a spinning wheel featuring the four Hogwarts house mascots, and includes 48 pieces along with a Harry Potter minifigure. On the platform sits a small stool with the Sorting Hat, two torches, a list, two cups, and Hedwig the owl. The play feature lets you sort Harry and other minifigures into houses by spinning the wheel, and the set is designed to fit into the Great Hall section of 4709 Hogwarts Castle. The set retired in December 2002, giving it a shelf life of just over a year, making new and sealed examples genuinely hard to find. The Harry Potter minifigure included is exclusive to this set and does not appear in any other LEGO sets. A great find for Harry Potter fans and LEGO collectors alike, particularly those building out the wider Philosopher's Stone range.
