Hardcase was one of the debut titles of Malibu Comics' Ultraverse line, which launched in June 1993. The series follows Tom Hawke, a struggling actor who gains superhuman strength and durability after being struck by the "Jumpstart Effect", a burst of energy from an ancient alien entity responsible for most of the world's super-beings. He teams up with others who have gained abilities to form the Squad, a group of ultraheroes who fight crime and become media celebrities. The series ran from 1993 to 1995 , and is set within the Ultraverse, a shared universe in which characters known as Ultras acquire superhuman abilities. This lot contains 8 issues in Very Good condition, making it a solid entry point into the Ultraverse for new readers or a handy fill-in batch for existing collectors. Malibu Comics was purchased by Marvel in November 1994 , giving the line added historical interest, and Hardcase remains one of its most fondly remembered titles.
