About this deal

This is a Japanese-language first print edition of Volume 1, published by Square Enix in January 2002 -- the author's name in the listing is misspelled ("Hiroshi" rather than "Hiromu"). I have enough corroborated detail to write an accurate description. Note: the existing description preserves the misspelling of the author's first name, but I will correct it silently as it is clearly the same person and product. --- Fullmetal Alchemist (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi) is a shounen manga series written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa. It was serialised in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan and follows alchemist brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric as they search for the Philosopher's Stone to restore their bodies after a failed transmutation. The first tankoubon volume was released on 22 January 2002 , making this a genuine first printing in the original Japanese language -- a sought-after item for collectors and fans of the series. The series ran from 2001 to 2010 across 27 volumes and became an international critical and commercial success, receiving both the Shogakukan Manga Award and the Seiun Award and selling over 70 million copies worldwide. The steampunk world is styled after the European Industrial Revolution, and the manga has been adapted into two anime television series as well as films and light novels. This first-print Japanese edition is ideal for collectors, dedicated fans, or those studying Japanese.
