About this deal

The Dragon 32 is an 8-bit home computer launched in August 1982 by Dragon Data Ltd, based in Wales, and aimed at the UK home market. It is powered by a Motorola MC6809E processor running at 0.89 MHz and features 32 kilobytes of RAM, as reflected in its name. The machine boots instantly into a Microsoft BASIC interpreter held in ROM and uses analogue joysticks, which set it apart from many rivals of the era. The units were built with a robust motherboard in a spacious case and were more tolerant of aftermarket modification than many contemporaries. The Dragon 32 could be expanded to support floppy disk storage via a DOS cartridge, which contained a small DOS ROM and floppy disk controller chip, with a 5.25-inch drive connected to it. To use a floppy disk drive with the Dragon, the DOS cartridge plugs into the computer's cartridge port and provides the interface and operating system; the drive cannot be used without one. A boxed Dragon 32 with its external drive is a rare and sought-after find for retro collectors, though this example is listed for parts or not working and would suit someone looking to restore or cannibalise for spares.
