About this deal
Critical Mass is a seven-issue limited series published by Epic Comics, a Marvel imprint, between 1989 and 1990. It was part of the Shadowline Saga, Marvel's first attempt at a mature audience line of superhero comics and the first by Epic to utilise a planned shared universe. Written by D. G. Chichester and Margaret Clark, the story brings together Doctor Zero, Power Line, and St. George to stop the insane plans of Professor Henry Clerk, a physicist determined to unleash nuclear devastation across America. The series is rooted in the mythology of the Shadow Dwellers, a race similar to humans but with superior abilities, who over the centuries became the basis of many human legends and myths, both heroic and supernaturally monstrous. Contributing artists across the run include Jim Lee, Mike Manley, Dan Spiegle, and Gray Morrow, with covers by the likes of Kevin O'Neill and Bill Sienkiewicz. None of the Shadowline books have been collected or reprinted , making this complete run a genuine rarity for collectors of Copper Age Marvel.
