About this deal
This is a lot from the Golden Age of Classics Illustrated comics. Classics Illustrated is an American comic book series featuring adaptations of literary classics such as Les Miserables, Moby Dick, Hamlet, and The Iliad. Publisher Albert Lewis Kanter believed he could use the new medium to introduce young and reluctant readers to great literature. Each issue presented an illustrated adaptation of a novel, play, or other literary work, supplemented by a brief biography of the featured author and shorter comic book adaptations of other historical events. This lot spans titles from across the series run. Moby Dick was issue number 5, first published in 1942. The Iliad was issue number 77 and Joan of Arc issue number 78, both published in 1950. The series proved immensely popular, with many issues running through as many as twenty printings. Original edition Classic Comics in Near Mint condition command prices in the thousands of dollars. This lot is listed in Very Good condition, making it an attractive option for collectors and fans of Golden Age comics.
