About this deal

Cartagena is a German-style board game released in 2000, inspired by the real 1672 pirate-led jailbreak from the fortress of Cartagena. Each player controls a group of six pirates with the aim of escaping through an underground passage that leads from the prison to a waiting sloop at the port. The modular board is made up of six double-sided sections, each featuring the same six symbols - daggers, pirate hats, pistols, bottles of rum, skulls, and skeleton keys - in different arrangements, giving every game a fresh layout. The game offers two variants: Jamaica, in which cards are kept hidden and play is fast-paced with an element of luck, and Tortuga, in which cards are open and the outcome is determined much more by careful analysis. The game plays quite differently in each mode. It works well as a light, accessible title for 2 to 5 players, sitting somewhere between a casual time-filler and a game that rewards genuine tactical thinking - more demanding than simple children's race games, but not overly heavy. This is a fully complete second-hand copy, ideal for families or anyone looking to pick up a well-regarded classic at a lower price.
