The Drawbridges (Die Zugbrucken) is a mini expansion for the classic tile-laying board game Carcassonne, designed to add a new layer of tactical decision-making to the base game. It contains 12 tiles featuring city gates with drawbridges. The expansion was released in the third edition (C3) in November 2023 by HiG, and does not exist for the first or second editions. The newest Carcassonne artwork from 2022 is featured, and it is playable with both the original and new versions of the base game. The core mechanic revolves around careful timing. When you close a road that leads to a drawbridge, you first score the road as usual, then check whether the drawbridge is up or down: if the city with the drawbridge is completed the bridge is up and nothing else happens, but if the city is still incomplete the bridge is down and, provided you have the majority on the road, you may move your meeple from that road into the city. If there are several drawbridges on the road, you may decide in which of the incomplete cities you place your meeple. A Carcassonne base game is required to play.
