Bungo Stray Dogs is a manga written by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa, serialised in Kadokawa Shoten's seinen magazine Young Ace from December 2012. The series originated from Asagiri's idea to gather multiple famous late authors and poets and reimagine them as young adults with supernatural powers. The English edition was licensed by Yen Press, with the first volume released on 20 December 2016. Volume 1 follows Atsushi Nakajima, a young man kicked out of his orphanage, who rescues a peculiar man named Osamu Dazai from a suicide attempt -- only to discover that Dazai belongs to a detective agency whose members wield supernatural powers with a distinctly literary theme. The series blends action, mystery and dark comedy, and has since spawned an anime adaptation and multiple spin-offs, making this first volume an ideal starting point for new readers.
