AtmosFear: The Gatekeeper is a DVD-driven update to the classic VCR board games Nightmare (1991) and Atmosfear (1995). Players each adopt the persona of one of six Harbingers -- a witch, zombie, vampire, werewolf, poltergeist, or mummy -- and compete in a horror-themed race around the board. The DVD replaces the old videotape and uses random programming to deliver a different game every time it is played. It is suitable for fans of horror-themed games aged 12 and over, and requires at least three players. The game runs as a 49-minute interactive experience controlled entirely by the DVD; once you press Play the countdown begins and cannot be stopped or paused. The Gatekeeper appears on screen throughout, issuing commands and causing problems for players, who must rush to take their turns and pass the dice before he calls on them. Components include the DVD with a 5.1 surround sound track, a game board, 156 Fate and Time cards, six character movers, 37 keys, six key racks, six character cards, a Well of Fears, two dice, and instructions.
