Astonishing Tales is a Marvel Comics anthology series that ran from 1970 to 1976. It began as a split title with solo features starring the jungle lord Ka-Zar and the supervillain monarch Doctor Doom in 10-page stories each. The Doctor Doom creative team was initially writer Roy Thomas and penciller-inker Wally Wood, while the Ka-Zar feature launched with the legendary partnership of writer Stan Lee and penciller Jack Kirby. A lot of 29 issues spanning this run is a strong prospect for Bronze Age collectors. Key issues across the series touch on characters including Deathlok, Mockingbird, Doctor Doom, Fin Fang Foom, Ka-Zar and Man-Thing. The final feature introduced Deathlok, a conflicted cyborg who predated the popular film character RoboCop by several years, with the full 36-issue run covering Ka-Zar and Doctor Doom in issues 1 to 8, Ka-Zar solo from 9 to 20, It! The Living Colossus from 21 to 24, and Deathlok the Demolisher from issue 25 onwards.
