About this deal
This expansion board gives an unexpanded BBC Model B eight banks of 16kB sideways RAM plus a further eight flash ROM images, allowing up to 16 ROM images to be loaded at any one time -- the maximum permitted by the Model B's design. The flash ROM supports 100,000 erase/program cycles and can be programmed directly in the machine without removal, with each 16kB bank taking around a second to program or verify. With the battery backup connected, the contents of all eight banks of sideways RAM are retained when the computer is switched off; the current drawn in standby is under one microamp, and the supplied lithium coin cell should last around four years. No track cutting or soldering is required during installation, and the upgrade can be removed easily if needed. The board is designed to reduce the number of flying leads compared to earlier designs and to simplify installation overall. Software to load and save ROM images to sideways RAM is included, and the board ships fully built and tested.
